Lavender (2017) – Movie Review Tracy Allen Canadian filmmaker Ed Gass-Donnelly ( This Beautiful City 2007, Small Town Murder Songs 2010) didn’t have much luck entering the horror field when he made The Last Exorcism II in 2013, a film mostly forgotten by genre fans. Honestly, I knew Lavender had at least three things going for it.You see, I usually really like movies with either Abbie Cornish, Justin Long or Dermot Mulroney, and with Lavender I get all three. What a strange little movie we have in the under-the-radar Canadian supernatural drama "Lavender". There is not much dramatic to be recounted in it, which is why 'Lavender' appears to be a movie that's all bones and less flesh and heart. The film is shot mostly in Thailand. I love this product since it gives me wonderful clean skin without having to resort to the old pumice stone.
After discovering old fractures in her skull, a photographer recovering from amnesia becomes increasingly haunted by a sinister childhood secret. 'Lavender' might have had the potential to be an interesting film, despite its core idea having been inspired. Lavender is not a particularly new take on the ghost story, but the gothic tale is renewed with gorgeous scenery and an even more intoxicating score. Boring, derivative, and infuriatingly illogical, Lavender is a ghost story with no thrills, no surprises, and no sense. That is an inspiration. Though amnesia may not be a particularly original horror trope, I think it was handled really well here.
